Hospital. 1887 and later C19, with further additions 1927 by
Scorer & Gamble, in matching style. Brick with stone and
terracotta dressings and hipped plain tile roof with 4 ridge
and 2 side wall stacks. Renaissance Revival style.
Cogged eaves, dentilled sill band, pedimented gables,
terracotta enrichments. 2 storeys plus attics, 16 bays.
Windows are glazing bar sashes.
Original front, 5 bays, has a recessed centre, 3 bays, with
shaped Dutch gable, and single flanking wings. 3 small sashes,
flanked by a coped square bay window to left and a pedimented
doorcase to right. Above, a central sash with segmental
pediment, flanked by single paired sashes with cornices. Above
again, 2 flat roofed dormers.
Each wing has a canted bay window with wavy coped parapet and
3 sashes. Above, a single larger sash with tympanum inscribed
"Built 1887".
Plainer addition, to left, 5 bays, has an off-centre gable
with similar fenestration to the wings.
Entrance front to Church Lane, 3 bays, has a projecting
pedimented centre with a pedimented doorcase flanked by single
sashes. Above, paired sashes flanked by single sashes. C20
addition, to right, 6 bays, in a very plain version of the
same style.
