The Well House
GV II
House. Early C18, with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed
squared rubble, with brick dressings and plain tile roof with
2 brick gable stacks. Quoins, dentilled eaves, brick coped
gables. 2 storeys plus attics, 3 bays. L-plan. Central
part-glazed panelled door with gabled hood on brackets. To its
right, a reset medieval mass dial, possibly from the nearby
Church of St Leonard. On either side, a glazing bar sash. To
left, a single bay addition with a similar sash. Above, 2
smaller glazing bar sashes, and above again, 3 gabled dormers
with 2-light sliding sashes.
INTERIOR has exposed chamfered beams to the main rooms on each
floor and in the cellar. Four C18 2-panel doors. Late C18
dogleg stair, 4 flights, with vase and stem balusters and
square newels. Common rafter roofs, largely renewed.
