House and public house, now club. House C18 and public house
C15, altered C19, C20. Timber frame, brick infill and
colourwashed brick, Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: No.25: 2 storeys, 4-bay front with 2 C20 entrance
doors and brick pillars on ground floor. Above is a jettied
1st floor with wall plate, 5 vertical posts and curved end
braces exposed between brick infill. 2 C20 casements. Deep
overhanging eaves on curved brackets. Deep fascia and secret
lead gutter.
To right No.23: 3 storeys, 5-bay front with modillioned eaves
cornice. Ground floor completely rebuilt C20 with 3 fixed
glazing bar lights with segmental heads. To 1st floor a
central C20 casement is flanked by single C19 canted oriel
windows with flat lead roofs. The blockings of earlier windows
can be seen. To 2nd floor 5 C20 glazing bar casements with
brick segmental heads.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: a timber-framed rear wing was demolished in 1979. It
was formerly the Saracens Head, and first mentioned as an Inn
in 1564.
