Built by the eccentric organ designer, Robert Hope-Jones, in 1894. He had hoped to power his organ with electricity but he used a gas engine and rotary blower instead with the necessary engine house built on the outside of the south wall of the quire, near the St John Chapel. The beautiful casing was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott.
