Pair of semi-detached houses. Numbered right to left,
described left to right. c1840's, with later additions and
alterations. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof, wide
eaves overhang; party wall brick stacks to front and rear roof
slope each with oversailing detail and pots.
One room wide, double-depth plan. Symmetrical facade with
entrances at left and right, 3 storeys on basement, four
first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes moulded
architraves to windows and doors, sills. 2/2 sashes
throughout, all in plain reveals. Semi-circular headed
replacement panelled door to left house, 4 panels plus glazed
'fanlight' panel; similar but probably original semi-circular
eaded door with integral 'fanlight' to right house, bottom
pair of panels flush-beaded, upper pair raised and fielded
with bolection moulding; panelled reveals, bottom panel
flush-beaded, otherwise raised and fielded with bolection
moulding, including those to arch soffit. Rear elevation
fenestration includes 3/3 and 6/6 sashes.
INTERIORS: noted as retaining original details including
panelled doors and shutters, architraves and skirtings,
plaster cornices, staircases with turned balusters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low brick garden walls with half-round
copings surmounted by vertical wrought-iron railings, matching
gates; diamond-pattern incised blue-brick paved pedestrian
access along length of Terrace.
Nos. 1-8 Field Terrace from a good group of mid C19 terraced
houses.
