Irregular terrace of 19 houses, now houses, flats and office.
Numbered right to left, described left to right. Early C19 with
later additions and alterations. Reddish-orange brick in Flemish
bond with slate roof, hipped at left, mainly with tall brick
party-wall stacks with oversailing courses and pots.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, some with attics,
1:2:1:blind:1:2:2:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:2:1:1:blind:1:2:1 first-floor
windows; the blind windows are shared between two houses. Ground
and first floors have mainly 8/8 sashes where original, in plain
reveals and with sills; Nos 14 and 30 have French windows, those
to No.30 with margin lights and gothic glazing to overlight with
balconies which have stick and circle motif balustrade, that to
No.14 renewed. Second floor has 3/3, 3/6 and 4/4 sashes where
original. Entrances mainly at right of each house, those to Nos 4
and 36 are paired; mainly 5-panel doors where original, the lower
panels flush beaded, with fanlights, some of which have
decorative glazing bars, mainly in tooled architraves, the pair
in shared pilastered surround; further similar entrance to left
return. Left return has 6/6 sashes where original; rear retains
6/6, 8/8, 3/3 and 4/4 sashes.
INTERIORS: not inspected.
Forms a group with Nos 4-10 (even) The Moors (qqv).
NOTE: Nos 38 and 40 were not previously listed (in 8/3/74) and
therefore are regarded as new listings.
