Large country house in landscaped surrounds. Early C18
extended C19, altered mid C20.
MATERIALS: mostly red brick in Flemish bond, part painted
brick. Low pitched, hipped old tile roofs hidden behind
parapets.
PLAN: Formerly nearly square plan, now irregular with canted
bays on north, east and south.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. Several chimneys with corniced heads and
clay pots. Parapet. Sash windows with glazing bars.
Irregular entrance front to north. Early C19 rounded 3-window
projection on right, covering 3-bays of original house. 2
storey, single window projecting frontispiece with paired,
tapered pilasters, at either end supporting moulded stone
cornices. Those on first floor rise above cornice, broken
forward to contain them, to brick parapet with stone urn
finials. First floor window moulded frame and moulded
architrave. Entrance door of 8 fielded panels in Doric
doorcase with triglyph frieze and projecting cornice with
mutules, broken back in centre. On left return (east front) 2
projecting 3-window, early C19 wings in painted brick with
canted ends, with 3-bays of original house visible between
them. Windows on second floor of older part have moulded
frames and gauged brick arches. On first floor beneath
platband Venetian window and balcony with balustrade. C20
French casement doors below this.
INTERIOR: some panelling and enriched doors. Window shutters
complete on ground floor.
