One house, now divided into 2 houses, for staff accommodation.
Early to mid C18, altered C20.
MATERIALS: red brick with dark grey headers in Flemish bond.
Hipped, old tile roof.
PLAN: double pile square plan with 2 canted bays on north.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 2 chimneys with cornice heads one with
clay pots. Tall, weathered brick plinth, oversailing corbelled
brick eaves. Sash windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick
arches.
Quince cottage, west front, symmetrical. 3-bays. Central 4
panelled entrance door with overlight with moulded architrave
surround, flat moulded hood supported on 2 console brackets.
Approached by a flight of 5 stone steps and iron balustrades
with urn finials.
Garden cottage, east front, asymmetrical. 4-bays. 3-bays on
right have central C20 6-panelled door and doorcase with
pediment and diamond pattern overlight. Approached by a flight
of 4 brick steps with stone treads.
INTERIORS: not inspected.
Quince Cottage and Garden Cottage together with Mulberry
Cottage (qv) form the eastern side, in part, of a stone paved
and cobbled stable yard. Quince Cottage and Garden Cottage are
reputed to be the original house, at Ascot Place.
