Stables and adjoining tower. Mid C18, altered C19 and C20.
MATERIALS: red brick in Flemish bond. Old tile hipped roof.
PLAN: rectangular plan with square tower adjoining on east
side.
EXTERIOR: 2 storey. Small rendered plinth, brick string at
first floor and brick dentilled eaves. 2-light casement
windows with horizontal glazing bars with segmental brick
arched heads.
East front has 7-bays. 2nd and 5th bays contain planked loft
doors, other bays are blind with segmental heads. Ground floor
has 4 windows with planked stable door adjoining each window
on right. Late C19 iron lantern on scrolled brackets on first
floor, between 3rd and 4th bays. On right hand end, pair of
wooden C20 garage doors. South west corner gate pier
surmounted with stone ball finial. Between north-east corner
of stable block and north-west corner of the Estate Office
(qv), early C20 brick wall with gate and 2 side panels of
scrolled and decorative iron work. On south-east corner, brick
gate pier surmounted with stone ball finial.
West front has 12-bays. First 2-bays have 2-light casement
windows, other 10-bays are blind, all with segmental heads.
Brick string at first floor level. Front part of long brick
wall running north, other parts of this wall are included
separately under Bothy Cottage, west and east yards, and the
Greenhouse garden (qqv).
Tower has 2 stages. Pyramidal roof surmounted by small
bellcote with open arched sides, lead ogee roof and ball
finial. The second stage contains a dovecote and has 4 small
openings on the south face. Tower otherwise plain except for
plain wooden entrance door on east face.
Stables and adjoining tower form west side of stone paved and
cobbled stable yard.
