WYMONDHAM
BARNHAM BROOM ROAD
Barn to West of Downham Lodge Farmhouse

II

Former threshing barn. Mid C18. Weatherboarded timber-frame with brick plinth and ends to bases of gables. Pantile roof. 5 bays with opposing cart entrances in centre bay. Tall panel framing with tension bracing from sole plates to principal posts. Roof structure of arch-braced tie beams with lap jointed collars, intermediate sets of principal rafters with collars yet without tie beams. 2 tiers of wedge-tenoned butt purlins and a ridge piece. Principal posts with carefully shaped jowls.
A fine example of a 5-bay threshing barn which is little-altered and forms part of a good farmstead group with Downham Lodge Farmhouse (q.v.) and the granary to south (q.v.)
