1809 Tunnel built for the railroad that ran to Middlebere quay.

This railroad was built to carry ball clay for Wedgwood and other potteries. It was financed by Benjamin Fayle (a friend of Thomas Byerley director of Wedgwood & Byerley) to overcome the eratic deliveries of clay across the heathland.
