A Grade II Listed Building in Rainhill, St. Helens

Waiting Shelter, Manchester bound platform, Rainhill Station

Uploader's Comments

This photo shows the station waiting shelter. I was the British Rail technical officer responsible for designing the cutting back of the roof. This was to allow container traffic to safely pass. The alternative (which the Divisional Civil Engineer at that time desired) was the demolition of the waiting shelter and its replacement by a steel "bus stop" type of shelter. Not appropriate for such an important station!
