SW central Bath was badly bombed in 1942 but the Council and its architects and planners probably did more damage than the Luftwaffe in the ensuing 30 years. It is not just that they knocked things down (the 18th c did plenty of that) but that what they put there instead was uniformly awful even by the standards of those benighted times. There is a fine example in the background.
