House. c1780.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, rubble to basement; double pile parapeted roof, concrete tile to front slopes, covering not visible to rear, with two ashlar stacks on coped gable wall to right. Staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement; two-window front. First floor has to right six/six sash in plain reveal with splayed jambs with stone sill with wrought iron balconette, to left similar six/nine sash. Second floor has two similar six/six sashes. Ground floor has similar six/six sash to right, to left three-panel door with two moulded panels, the upper with applied moulding forming diamond panel with wrought iron wreath knocker and two small glazed panes in top panel (cf. Nos. 2, 3 & 5 Ainslie's Belvedere qv) in beaded reveal with tent hood over, small window with C20 glazing in beaded reveal to left of door, wrought iron footscraper attached to left of door. Basement has six/six sash in plain reveal with splayed jambs with stone sill, door under crossover not visible, concrete roofed extension in area to right. Band course over ground floor, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet all continuous with No. 5 Ainslie's Belvedere (qv). Rear elevation partially visible has one eight/eight sash to each of basement, ground and first floors, two six/six sashes to second floor, two small extensions to basement.
INTERIOR: Not inspected; noted as having dog-leg stick baluster staircase.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
HISTORY: Dated by Ison to 1780, the Bath Chronicle reported an `Auction of the estate known as Ainslies's Belvedere, being 6 substantial dwelling houses' on 27.11.1794. A William Ainslie was one of the original lessees of a house in The Circus.
