Detached house. c1825. Probably by John Pinch.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, hipped slate roof with moulded stacks to sides.
PLAN: Double depth with a small single storey wing to the right.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys with attic and lower ground floor; symmetrical three window front. Returned coped cornice, parapet, frieze and first floor sill band; six/six pane sash windows, those to the ground floor, set in painted semicircular arched recesses, have balconettes. The centre of the parapet sweeps up to the centre with stone paterae and scrolls flanking the centre over an open balustraded panel. The elaborate painted stone doorcase, with highly characteristic late Georgian ornament, has a cornice, with foliate scroll carving to the frieze, Composite capitals (with grape and vine leaf enrichment) to plain pilasters, a semicircular arched recess over a five panel door with a large ornamental circular panel to the centre. To the centre of the rear garden front is a full height segmental bay with a high parapet and louvred shutters to the windows.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: A fine late Georgian villa forming part of the upward development of Bathwick Hill. The date is taken from the conveyance from the Earl of Pulteney¿s estate. The drawings for this and other houses close by came from the Darlington Estate Office, to which Pinch was surveyor.
