Detached Villa. c1810 enlarged mid and late C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof with moulded stacks to coped gable ends.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, attic and lower ground floor, symmetrical three window front to central block. Cornice and parapet were probably raised late C19 when attic was enlarged with three large dormers. Six/six pane sash windows, first floor sill band and ground floor platband. Mid C19 single storey side wings with hipped roofs, parapets and cornices, project to form courtyard. Between them ground floor of main block fronted by lower single storey range with parapet and cornice, centre is stepped slightly forward with narrow margin lights to six panel door and overlight incorporating cobweb fanlight, flanked by wide banded rusticated piers and meander pattern frieze. Over the door large, heavily moulded urn in the early C18 style. Rear elevation detailed very similarly to front, again with three large added dormers.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: This house, possibly designed by John Pinch the Elder, forms part of the early development of this part of Bathwick Hill. It was originally called `Woodland Villa¿. The attic storey and single storey front are later additions. The right-hand bay underwent substantial rebuilding in c.2001.
