Description

QUEEN STREET
656-1/40/1341 (West side)
No.12
12/06/50

GV II

House at end of row. Early to mid C18.
MATERIALS: Painted ashlar, double Roman tile roof.
PLAN: Property adjoins archway, part of No.1, Queen Street (qv), and has single bay elevation to Trim Street.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two windows, all sashes, paired central dormer above twelve-pane, with large twenty-four-pane and narrower eighteen-pane at first floor, both with thick glazing bars and small square panes. Ground floor has late C20 reproduction square oriel shopfront in four:sixteen:four-panes, with, to left, early six-panel door with two-pane transom light under flat slab hood on shaped brackets. Basement has two pavement grilles over sashes. Full width strings at three levels, with blocking course and parapet, to right cropped stack. Front to Trim Street reconstructed, with plain dormer above sixteen-pane sashes.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: The form of the first floor sashes suggests an earlier provenance for this house than for others in street.
