Terrace of three houses. Early C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roofs, concrete tile to No.20.
PLAN: Double depth with central valley.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement, each two windows, six pane to second floor, and twelve pane in moulded architraves with cornice at first floor. Ground floor with single plain sash.
No.20 has basement area, others have paved forecourt, with glazed lean-to roof over basement lights. To right of Nos 22 and 24 in deep reveals are panelled doors, but No.20 has channelled square porch with cornice and blocking course. Channelled ground floor has deep platband, carrying paired giant Doric paired pilasters to outer bays, slightly stepped forward, with threaded second floor sill band; entablature with blocking course and parapet, slightly raised over end bays. Each party wall has coped gable with deep ashlar stack.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Across frontage, returned at No.22 and also carried around basement area to No.20 are simple spiked railings on stone curb, but without gates.
HISTORY: Intended as central feature in terrace of twenty one houses, of which only fourteen were built, this has slightly richer detail than remainder. (See also Nos 2 and 4; 6-18; 26 and 28).
