Quadrant-shaped house, with deep narrow wing to rear. Late C18, restored 1984.
MATERIALS: Fine ashlar, roof not visible.
EXTERIOR: Four storeys, four bay curved principal elevation with single bay at right-angle to left. Ground floor with central pair of panelled doors, flanked by eight/eight pane sash windows beneath extended wood lintels, possibly the remains of earlier shop fronts. Platband above ground floor, with `ST MICHAEL'S PLACE¿ in incised Roman capitals. Upper windows mainly six/six sashes, three/three to attic, but centre-left bay of first floor has eight/eight sash; centre right bays of all upper floors are blind. Short return six-pane above twelve, with two doors with transom lights; sill band to second floor, and cavetto cornice above second floor and attic, with blocking course and parapet. To rear, right, very deep ashlar stack. Ground floor has panel recording Marks and Spencers' Centenary Year, 1884-1984, during which this building was restored and part of it given over to the St. Michael's Centre for Senior Citizens.
