Coach house and garden building. 1843 with C20 alterations. By James Wilson (drawings at the RIBA).
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof with two moulded ridge stacks.
PLAN: U-plan with two forward wings.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys. Each wing has open pediment to gable end on paired brackets at quoins, centres step well forward with smaller pediments on similar brackets over first floor six/six-pane sash windows with segmental arches and large keystones. Central set back range has two six/six-pane sash windows with hoods on brackets at eaves level. C20 slate roofed lean-to to ground floor has C20 doors. Gatepiers fronting courtyard with cornices on paired brackets and pyramidal caps, are flanked by walls enclosing courtyard. Three bay garden front has dentil cornices to stacks flanking central bay. Parapet has moulded coping and vertically pierced panels over each bay. Returned cornice has paired shaped brackets to quoins and similar brackets above raised surrounds and to sills of six/six-pane first floor windows to outer bays, moulded archivolts, impost string courses and large radial fanlights over C20 half glazed doors to ground floor. Central bay is slightly recessed with moulded archivolts and imposts to three full height semicircular arches, impost cornice continues, recessed, under pierced stone radial fanlights and over tall small paned C20 glazing.
