Pair of terrace houses. c1800-1804 with C19 alterations and C20 additions. Possibly by Charles Harcourt Masters.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar and concrete tile roofs.
PLAN: Double depth range, with late C20 rear range. Entered from south side, with principal elevation and garden to north.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, two windows each, mainly plain sash. Paired to centre, and with margin panes to single outer bays, ground floor has pair of doors, far left, and single door with slab hood on brackets, with sidelights, to left of No. 8. First floor band, lintel, frieze, cornice, blocking course and parapet, small centre stack. Rear in reconstituted stone with concrete tile roofs, with two and three light casements. No. 9 has end pavilion with hipped roof, and with door facing west.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: No. 8 has pair of gatepiers with urns, and C20 gate, linked by railings on low ashlar wall to similar piers to No. 9, with one urn only remaining, and plank gate, return at party division also railing rather than wall. Part of very long speculative row, with many variations, and retaining much original detail to north front, more fully reconstructed than most of the houses.
