Water trough. Early C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone and sandstone ashlar.
EXTERIOR: Pair of narrow piers with sunk panels and cusped heads at two levels, cross saddle cappings with trefoil pediments. Wide four-centred arch with broad ovolo mould edge under tympana with sunk centres, straight moulded parapet. Arch voussoirs carried through to rear wall, set back approx 7cm in plain ashlar above water trough formed in large sandstone block; across top of this sandstone slabs, with broad horizontal bar, formerly with railings. Trough faces Widcombe Hill, slopes steeply at this point, and takes advantage of the numerous spring issues in hillsides. It is in the boundary wall to No.7, Cambridge Terrace (not included).
