Cross of Sacrifice.

II

Memorial cross. C1922. Sir Reginald Blomfield, designer. Portland Stone with a bronze sword attached to front. Tall cross shaft on stepped base, bearing inscription `THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVER MORE'.
HISTORY: Erected by the Imperial War Graves Commission (IWGC), one of numerous versions of this design erected both in Britain and at military cemeteries abroad (cf the Bath War Memorial at the entrance to Victoria Park, q.v.). To the west of the cross are five rows of headstones (over forty in all, and mainly marking deaths in 1919-21), forming a group; numerous other IWGC headstones are elsewhere in the cemetery, which is located close to the Royal United Hospital.
