Detached pair of houses at end of row. c1820.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, front rendered to No.12, slate roof.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and two lower ground floors created by drop in level from road front, each two windows, all plain sash to heavy stooled sills, above late C19 shopfronts, that to No.14 with pilasters, in two-bays with central door to transom light, and further door to right. Small plinth dies to left with rise in pavement, cavetto cornice with blocking course and parapet. Return to right at obtuse angle, with coped gable and small cropped stack to front. Rear, immediately abutting railway line, not accessible.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
This pair is a survival from a longer row, now part demolished. Included for group value. The Road to Wells and Exeter was described as 'The New Road' on Chantry's 1793 plan of Bath.
