GV II

House, now a nursing home. Dated 1857.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, hipped slate roof with wide bracketed eaves and variously-placed moulded stacks.
PLAN: Irregular plan with a single storey rear wing running to left of entrance.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and lower ground floor. Plate-glass sash windows, those to the ground floor with semicircular arches and keystones reaching a narrow first floor platband. The garden front facing south has a full height canted bay with a hipped roof to the right of centre and a rectangular gabled bay to the left of centre with a tripartite window to the first floor and paired windows to the ground floor. The bargeboard of the gable forms an open pediment over a carved coat of arms and the date. A slightly-projecting rear left hand range has a single storey entrance block in the angle with balustraded parapets to the top and flanking the steps up to a semicircular arch in the left return. The set back door has two rows of three vertical panels with one window to the right and one to the front of the block. Prominent chimneystacks to both main block and wing.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
An Italianate design, showing the influence of Goodridge in terms of its massing, fenestration and details, especially the deep eaves.
