House, St Winifred's Well Cottage, mid C18 (OS says post-1776)with C20 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to south front, rubblestone to rest, steep single pitched pantile mansard roof with two raking dormers and moulded stack to coped left gable end.
PLAN: Three unit plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, attic and basement, symmetrical three window range. Coped parapet and cornice to front, six/six pane sash windows, that to first floor centre blind with C20 low relief model of St Winifred. Six panel door under shell hood. Rear wing attached to wall but with separate gabled roof. Clare Cottage, early C19 with C20 additions.
MATERIALS: Painted rough ashlar, pantile roof with moulded stacks to coped gable ends.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, three window range. C20 windows and door.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
St Winifred was a C7 Welsh martyr; miraculous powers were assigned to a well in Flintshire associated with her, hence her identification with other springs. She is depicted in a sculpted relief on the front of the house.
