Includes: No.12 CHAPEL ROW. Terraced house. Late C18 with C20 additions.
MATERIALS: Fine ashlar, slate roof.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, five windows, all six/six sashes. Three two-light small-pane casement dormers, above windows in plain reveals, with floating cornices and central pediment at first floor, in moulded architraves with cornice to ground floor, and one+two sash to basement. Central six-panel door on three stone steps and landing, with Roman Doric doorcase with entablature and pediment, to left inserted pair of glazed doors under deep transom-panel. Three centre bays are slightly stepped forward, and inflected in moulded cornice, but not blocking course and parapet. Cropped stack to coped gable to right, and broad stack to eaves at rear, left. Roof returns with hipped end to Chapel Row, with blind light above deep twelve-pane sash, C20 three-light display front. Straight joint in masonry to No.12, Chapel Row (qv), adjoining, cornice and parapet detail continuous.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Across front, and returned to ends and central doorway is spear head railing on curb to basement areas.
HISTORY: Although Monmouth Street was laid out in 1727 as part of John Strahan's speculative development, this building appears to be of a later date.
