GV II

Public house. c1770, possibly with earlier core, remodelled 1926.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, now painted, with Welsh slate roof.
PLAN: Narrow double depth plan with rear extension.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys with attic, one window, sash six/six with horns, coved cornice and parapet, mansard roof with one flat topped dormer, six/six sash. Modern pilastered public house front, tripartite window, six:fifteen:six, with door to right.
INTERIOR: Bars in character with front, ie. much dark stained wood of `Georgian' type. Interior otherwise not inspected. HISTORY: Green Street was laid out in 1716, and this building may incorporate an older structure. It has been `The Old Green Tree' since the 1770s, and is thus one of the oldest public houses in Bath. The interior, which had previously been one room only in depth with a brewery behind, was remodelled by W.A. Williams in an atmospherically contextual manner (cf his work at this time to the Star PH in Vineyards, qv).
