Lime kiln, now club house. Late C18, converted c1965.
MATERIALS: Coursed limestone rubble, asphalt roof.
PLAN: Square lime kiln with buttresses on either side of the fire hole, now the entrance.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys. Above the entrance there is a projecting steel balcony and French door. The west elevation has a modern door and window and the east side wall is blind.
It backs onto end of Johnstone Street and was originally charged from there. The parapet has been rebuilt and the charge hole roofed over. The adjacent quays for delivery of coal must have played key part in development of Pulteney/Bathwick estate in early C19.
* Historic interest: It is included as very unusual survival of a late-C18 lime kiln in a city centre setting.
