A war memorial erected c.1920 to commemorate the fallen of the First World War.

Description


A First World War memorial of c.1920.

MATERIALS AND PLAN: The memorial is constructed of stone and is rectangular in plan.

DESCRIPTION: The memorial stands between the lychgate and the Church of St Bridget, and takes the form of a stone of remembrance. It has a carved relief figure of a soldier in First World War uniform, holding a flag in one hand and an olive branch in the other.

There is an inscription with reads, "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1918 (NAMES)/ MEN FROM BREAN/ ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS".

The memorial sits upon a rectangular base of rock-faced stone.
