MATERIALS: carved from stone.
DESCRIPTION: the war memorial stands in the churchyard of All Saints’ Church. It is situated upon a mound covered by rubble-stone paving, which is approached via stone steps at the SW of the churchyard. In addition there is a path and wrought-iron gateway leading from the adjacent Watford Road. The memorial comprises a Latin cross set upon a capital at the head of a tapering octagonal shaft with a moulded base. It stands upon a moulded octagonal plinth and two-tier stepped base. On the base is the inscription: REMEMBER/ BEFORE GOD/ THOSE FROM/ THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1914-1918. The names of the fallen of the First and Second World Wars are inscribed onto bronze plaques set into the sides of the plinth.

The aftermath of the First World War saw a huge wave of public commemoration with tens of thousands of memorials erected across the country. One such memorial was funded by local subscription and erected in 1920 to commemorate 38 residents of Kings Langley who died during the conflict. It was unveiled on 10 October 1920 by Sir Thomas Frederick Halsey (1839-1927), a Conservative politician and army officer, who had served as MP for Hertfordshire. After the Second World War the names of 32 residents that died during that conflict were added to the memorial.
Kings Langley War Memorial, erected in 1920, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as a war memorial that has strong cultural and historic significance within both a local and national context;
* Commemorative: as a poignant reminder of the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made during the First and Second World Wars;
* Design: as an elegant Latin cross set upon a tapering shaft, octagonal plinth and stepped base;
* Group value: with the Grade II*-listed All Saints’ Church and Grade II-listed monuments in the churchyard.
