Opened 1901. High, wide single span massed concrete viaduct;
single concrete arch ring with rusticated detailing; rubble
parapet with crenellation. Viaduct flanked by rubble bridges
oversailing path each side of Borrodale Burn; dressed rubble
arch rings with crenellated parapets. All parapets with
concrete copse. Long, high approach causeway carries track at
north. Continuous string course links rubble and concrete
masonry. Centre span of 127'6" (38.9m) flanked by 20'
(6.1 m) spans.
In 1901 this viaduct was the longest concrete span in
the world. Upgraded January 1989.
