Lime Kilns and Pier

Uploader's Comments

Ard Neakie was once the site of a limestone quarry with limestone kilns. The lime was used in the 19th century as a neutralising agent when reclaiming the peaty soil for farming. Stores and ammunition were stored here by the Navy during the war, in caves and the old limestone kilns.
