Description

Mainly mid-later 19th century, incorporating various
builds including small harled late 18th century dwelling
to rear. Coursed rubble, tooled ashlar dressings.
Main SE frontage; asymmetrical, with lower L-plan block
at right with swept dormer; taller central 2-bay with
full height canted bay at right, linked to recessed
gable end of SW facing block by crowstepped gabled bay;
porch in re-entrant angle formed at south, with re-set
coat of arms over door.
Mainly 8- and 12-pane glazing, some windows with heavy
moulded wood mullions. Tall ashlar coped stacks, with
diamond flues, either singly or in batteries of 2 or 3;
crowsteps to gables and most dormer-heads; slate roofs.
Small late 18th, 2-storey, 3-bay dwelling to rear, linked
to main house by mock timber-framed passage.
Interior; original later 19th century fittings; panelled
hall; chimney piece flanked by fluted to Corinthian
pilasters. Gothic detailing to delicately carved drawing
room chimney piece.

Initials over front door; SWS DCS for Sinclairs of Barroc

proprietors from 1631.

Drawing room chimney piece said to have been made by

craftsmen. House in present form on 1st ed. OS of 1872,

though former drive to older part of house at rear shows

as having only just been planted and realigned.
