Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 4-bay terrace house with
carriage pend, apparently incorporating fragments of
late 19th century predecessor. Squared and snecked,
stugged red sandstone with stugged ashlar dressings to
S; harl-pointed rubble to sides and rear.
S (ROADSIDE) ELEVATION: 3-bays to centre and left
grouped closely; doorway with stone bracketted canopy,
panelled door and plate glass fanlight; windows flanking
at ground (cill of right-hand window probably retained
from earlier building). Outer bay to right with
segmentally arched carriage pend with chamfered arrises
and boarded doors; 1st floor window over.
Forestair at rear to doorway altered from former stair
window at centre.
Higher eaves than flanking buildings (Red Tiles and West
Barns Inn).
8-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows. Broad
end stacks with brick repairs; ashlar coped skews.
Grey slates.

Statement of Interest

Similar terraced houses with carriage pends included in

Victoria Street, Dunbar. Penticed door canopy echoes

those used at Tyninghame Village. Listed C(S) for its

contribution to the main road through West Barns, and in

relation to West Barns Inn adjoined to right.
