A Category B Listed Building in Canonbie, Dumfries and Galloway

Tower of Sark Churchyard

Uploader's Comments

The churchyard is near the site of Morton Tower which, in the sixteenth century was the home of the notorious Scottish Border Reiver, William Armstrong of Kinmont. Kinmont was immortalised by Sir Walter Scott in the 'Ballad of Kinmont Willie' in his Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border published at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
Kinmont's grave is not marked though it is thought his 'table-top' gravestone now lies under the sod;in recent years it was briefly exposed.
