Architect probably Walter Newall, circa 1830; some
alterations by Charles Howitt, 1858. 2-storey 3-bay farmhouse
with wings, detached courtyard steading to north with
horsemill. All rubble-built with ashlar dressings;
whitewashed; roofs covered with graded slates. House:
originally T-plan, with low rear wing, latter raised and
recessed lower east wing added by Howitt. South elevation:
square central bull-faced ashlar porch added probably later
19th century; sash windows, plate glass at ground, 12-pane
glazing at 1st floor. Straight skews (later skews all
sawtoothed end stacks. Recessed wing extends east one bay,
low (?late 19th century) single bay wing beyond. Steading: 4
ranges built around narrow rectangular courtyard, latter
entered at south east corner. Large apsidal horsemill,
supported on square ashlar piers, at north end of tall west
range; barn door in north end wall of latter. South range has
3-bay stable with loft and low cartshed at east short east
range with piended wide 3-bay south end wall. Deep north
range with high roof and 2 tiers skylights/glazed roof
ventilators.
