This building although dating from the early 18th century in its present form has a medieval core and remains as the only building to survive the fire of 1689. After the defeat by the Jacobites at the Battle of Killiecrankie in July 1689 the surviving government troops fell back to Dunkeld. They were reinforced by the Cameronians and in August 1689 a fierce battle took place for the town. The Cameronians only just held out but the town was destryed by fire.
