Description

Late 18th century. Near quadrangular plan walled garden. Random rubble walls; polished dressings droved to margins; rubble coping. Evidence of heightening, especially to NW. Low entrance to N with long and short red sandstone dressings; boarded timber door; secondary entrance to SE with boarded timber door. Lean to building incorporated into NW wall with replacement corrugated iron roof and doors; stone skews. Wall extends to Currie Bridge at S corner (see separate listing). SW wall obscured by trees (1997) possibly not intact.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997, overgrown. Waisted sundial to centre; gnomon missing.

Statement of Interest

The sundial appears on the 1st edition OS Map (1852). Now part of Borthwick Castle estate.
