Description

Early 19th century. Rubble, ashlar coped walled garden, enclosing an area approximately 150 x 100m with central dividing wall. S facing walls lined in brick, with 5 segmental arches to central division. S facing lean-to greenhouse on N wall to W on ashlar base course and with ashlar coped parapet above closed by 2 sculpted swans.

Statement of Interest

Not included in Ainslie's plans THE PLEASURE GROUNDS OF GOSFORD 1808. Other greenhouses on the N wall have been demolished. The Bothy Cottage (potting shed) and Gardener's Cottage are listed separately. The swan is a Wemyss family emblem, also appearing on Gosford House and Stables. A-Group with other Gosford Estate buildings; see notes for Gosford House.
