Description

Thomas Telford, 1819; widened 1932, Mears and Carus Wilson, Architects. High 3-arch bridge; all squared, dressed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings; concrete widening cased in original stonework. Wide and high segmental headed centre tooled ashlar arch ring flanked by triangular cut waters rising full height as shallow giant pilasters, and by lower

outer, round-headed arch rings. High dressed rubble parapet with tooled squared ashlar cope.

Statement of Interest

Superseded General Wade's High Bridge of 1736 further downstream. Widened on upstream (SE) side of bridge.
