Description

Early 19th century. Roughly circular burial ground enclosed
by coped rubble wall; entrance in south flanked by square
tooled rubble gate piers with square caps supporting cast
concrete urns. Burial ground separted from road at south
by Cluny Castle policy wall with entrance fronting burial
ground gateway; square ashlar gate piers with crenellated
caps cast-iron gates to both entrances with spearhead
detailing.
MacPherson of Cluny burial enclosure with arched recess
against burial ground wall containing low relief marble
sarcophagus set on deep plinth.

Statement of Interest

Earliest dated tombstone appears to be of 1801. Earliest

dated memorial within MacPherson enclosure to Colonel

Duncan MacPherson of Cluny, died 1817, who built present

Cluny Castle.

Burials not confined to Cluny MacPherson family.

Burial ground may occupy earlier ecclesiastical site.
