Probably Peddie and Kinnear, circa 1889, almost
certainly reworking earlier fabric. Single storey,
square-plan gate lodge. Harled with droved ashlar
dressings; chamfered arrises to openings. Main elevation
3-bay, symmetrical; bowed entrance bay with doorway
flanked by small windows; 2-leaf door; conical roof.
Windows in outer bays. Roadside elevation with 3-light
bowed window to right with blocking course, and
bipartite to left. Rear elevation with doorway at centre
flanked by windows. 8-pane glazing pattern to sash and
case windows; Rosemary tiles to pyramidal roof; ashlar
stack at centre.
Architects almost certainly Peddie and Kinnear who were
working at Keith Marischal house in 1889. The South
Lodge was designed in same form, but with painted harling
and slates, the 2 providing and interesting exercise in
individuality within a theme.
