Description

W C Joass, 1879-81, with later alterations and additions.
Large rectangular hall, harled with some applied timber
framing; continuous veranda flanking centre entrance in north
gable and long east and west elevations originally open with
lean-to roof supported by slender columns, now closed and
glazed with weather-boarded lower portion of frontage. Later
wing projects at north-east. Large multi-pane lunette fills
north gable; coved and barge-boarded eaves with some wooden
dog-tooth decoration at veranda eaves; large ridge sky light
(replacing former saddle vent); wooden apex finials; slate
roofs.

Statement of Interest

Unusual survival of pavilion, designed as social focus of

the spa as opposed to the medical and curative centre of the

pump rooms.
