Description

Late 19th century, Deveyesque pair semi-detached houses; 2
storey, asymmetrical 3 bay south facing gabled frontage.
Grey bullfaced rubble ground floor, alternate bands of plain
and fish-scale red tile hung 1st floor, Paired principal
gables with large 3-light windows in ground floor and
canopied 2 light in 1st floor; slightly projecting smaller
gabled bay at south east; further gabled wing at north-west
with entrance to western house in re-entrant angle. Entrance
to eastern half in east front. Decorative stained glass upper
lights; rear wallhead stacks with original red chimney cans;
slate roof with decorative tiled cresting and finials.

Statement of Interest

Tile-hanging unusual in Scotland. This walling material

recalls south east England, in the style of George Devey

(1820-86) Does not appear on 1st edition OS of 1876.
