Description

Dated 1858, possibly incorporating earlier fabric. Small single bay, rectangular-plan, crenellated gothic chapel in walled enclosure. Stugged ashlar with squared rubble to sides and rear; ashlar dressings. Eaves cornice. Pointed-arch and trefoil openings. Hoodmoulds.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: gabled elevation with deep-set moulded doorway, boarded timber door and timber-louvered doorhead surmounted by Riddell family coat-of-arms and Celtic cross finial with dated base.

S and N ELEVATIONS: 2 hoodmoulded pointed-arch openings to each elevation (all blocked).

E ELEVATION: hoodmoulded opening to centre with glazed(?) trefoil in gablehead.

Stone slates; decorative chevroned crenellations with block skewputts to W and sawtooth skews to E.

BOUNDARY WALLS, RAILINGS AND GATES: saddleback-coped squared and snecked rubble boundary walls with inset ironwork railings and 2-leaf gate.

Statement of Interest

The 1858 date may have been added at the time of repairs carried out for General Sprot.
