Description

William Robertson, Elgin, 1834; S facing, 2-storey,
symmetrical 3-bay house fronting gable of smaller 1775 manse,
forming L-plan dwelling. Harled with granite ashlar margins,
rubble rear wing.
Centre entrance in slightly recessed centre pedimented bay of
main house. Later projecting porch with shallow gable and
moulded cornice suggesting pediment; simple fanlight and
panelled door. Later narrow side lights with sandstone ashlar
margins flank entrance (probably A Marshall Mackenzie 1876).
Simple granite aprons to ground floor front windows; 12-pane
glazing; paired margined stacks; piended slate roof with
projecting eaves. Plain 1775 2-storey rear wing with
3-window fenestration to E elevation; W elevation fronted by
1870 harled single storey and attic, 3-bay extension with
gabled and swept roof; mainly 12-pane glazing. Coped end
stacks; slate roof.
INTERIOR: spacious 1834 entrance hall with staircase;
fruitwood handrail and simple balusters. Some fielded
panelled doors and window shuttersin 1775 wing.
STEADING: 1769. Small single storey E facing U-plan steading;
later garage entrance slapped in S wall. Graded Tomintoul to
piended roof, replacing earlier thatch.
