Description

F A Robertson, architect, 1922-23. 4-stage clock tower
war memorial, square on plan. Tooled rubble, tooled
ashlar dressings. Shallow pedimented advanced ground
floor bays linked by continuous string course with
plaque on 3 faces and entrance in one. Narrow single
window with multi-pane glazing in centre of each 2nd
and 3rd floor face; clock face in each elevation of
corbelled upper stage under crowstepped and finialled
gablets; centre pagoda-type cupola with slender metal
spiked ball finial.

Statement of Interest

War memorial sited in centre of village square. Built to

design of F A Robertson who died before completion; work

completed and co-ordinated by contractor, W A Donald

of Newmill, with some additional help from local

volunteers.
