Description

1823 (dated) 2-storey 3-bay house built against earlier
house, doubling its thickness; set at south corner of
steading courtyard, latter built 1827 C. Halliday and
R Carruthers, contractors now altered. Whin rubble, red
ashlar dressings, some margins painted; windows mostly
12-pane sashes. South west front of house has central
panelled door and decorative fanlight in pilastered
doorcase, eaves/lintel band, symmetrically placed stacks and
piended roofs.
Steading: 1 or 2 storeys/lofts; courtyard entered beside
house (screen walls, square gatepiers); L-plan range (part
domestic) adjoining rear of house has long south west
elevation with gabled wall head dormers, louvered square
ventilator to courtyard; garage doors inserted in gable of
return; barn at north with segmental-arched barn door
to courtyard. Single storey L-plan range to north east
(included for group value) also part domestic with
segmental-arched cartway to court now a window; south east
elevation with drainpipe ventilators and trellis. All
roofed with graded slates.
