Style of Walter Newall of Dumfries. Circa 1840, incorporating
plain 18th century house as lower rear wing; each of these 2
storeys with basement, 3 bays. Now T-plan. 19th century
House: red ashlar shallow projecting mullioned (mostly
bipartite) windows, corniced at ground; inner bay on south
elevation slightly advanced, with blocking course over main
cornice, corniced porch with arcaded frieze; off-set above
basement; band between floors; cut-down symmetrically placed
stacks; modern concrete tile roof.
Rear wing: top floor probably not original rendered, with
red ashlar margins; lower wing to north with 2 garage doors
inserted, octagonal gatepiers and railings alongside to
east; tall, rubble-built ashlar-coped wall to west, with
blocked circular opening, encloses north end of garden;
latter bowed to south with gatepiers beside house,
decorative wrought-iron gates and railings.
